COMPETITION FOR POSITIONS AND MISUSE OF MONEY IS A KEY ISSUE IN THE DANAWOZI MUNICIPALITY.

In November 2021, the community had the opportunity to elect councilors who would bring development and needs to the areas where the upper KwaZulu Natal community lives and works. In the municipality, no political party was able to get the votes to govern alone. This forced the parties to govern in coalision, which led to the two parties that were competing for the municipality, the African National Congress (ANC) and the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), persuading smaller parties to work together in the municipality. The Inkatha Freedom Party was able to govern the municipality in partnership with the EFF, ABC and another party. The Inkatha Freedom Party won the Mayor and Speaker positions. Under the leadership of the party, the municipality was led by Councilor Nene for the Mayor and Councilor Nkosi for the Speaker for two years. The community was not interested in the progress that was being made and tensions arose between the Mayor and the former Manager of the Municipality and the elections were held, which led to the collapse of the marriage between the Inkatha Freedom Party and the EFF and the other party. These parties had already abandoned the Inkatha and married the ANC, which removed the Inkatha from power and held the mayoral position until the National Congress (ANC) came in in 2023.

With only one year left for these councilors to expire in this municipality but have never done anything for the community that elected them but have fought FOR POSITIONS year after year they announce the budget in the end not even a single thing happens that is due to the corruption of the ward committees of the municipalities, the ward committees in this municipality have been receiving R1200 per month since they were elected in 2022 and have only received two T-shirts and one jacket and one pocketbook but they are the ones who help the councilor and the municipality the most. Under the speaker, councilor Nkosi received a jacket, a bag, a T-shirt, a pocketbook and a hearty meal at the end of the year. Councilor Nkosi left the speaker’s seat and was replaced by councilor Mnyaka who did not help the ward committees at all but preferred to hire his own guards and buy nice cars with public money. Corruption is rampant in this municipality and development is slow.
