Ikemeleng is based in Kroondal, Rustenburg, North West province, South Africa.
Ikemeleng youth and parents are facing a serious issue for 3 years now no high school in our community children were moved to boarding school and boons was one of the boarding schools, for the last 6 months parents have been complaining about children not eating enough at boons and being treated like animals locked up in the rooms during weekends and children who are from Koster attending the same boarding school are bullying Ikemeleng students because they are not from there same area.
For the past 6 months, we have had meetings with community parents for Boons students, and I interviewed both parents and students, and one parent said (Lerato), “We want our children to be safe”. Mpho said, “We have to go to Boons and see what is happening”, and one student said, “Those people don’t like us because we are not from there”. They’re common with parents, and they’re not happy being away from home and don’t enjoy boarding because of how teachers, students, and workers are not treating them like others, because they are from the same area, and most of the community is from Koster and Derby.
Parents are not happy about the fact that they want their children to attend high school in the Ikemeleng community. They want their children to be safe, eat healthy, and be mentally stable. The parents came up with suggestions if children have to get a bus to go to school each day, they can help to pay it or maybe wait until the school is reopen on 22 July 2025 to talk to principal that they want children to come home every weekend while they are busy looking for help about building high school within Ikemeleng community in Kroondal.
