WARD 11 JOUBERTON RESIDENTS FRUSTRATED POOR SERVICE DELIVERY AS WATER AND ELECTRICITY PROBLEMS CONTINUE
Samuel Olehile
Residents of ward 11 in Jouberton say they are losing patience due to ongoing poor service delivery after being left without water for three days and facing frequent electricity outages that sometimes last for up to two days.
Community members say these repeated disruptions are making everyday life extremely difficult and are calling on the municipality to provide reliable basic services.
The three day water outage affected households across the ward, leaving many families without water for drinking, cooking, cleaning and sanitation. Residents were forced to search for water from other areas or rely on the assistance of neighbors. Many said they received little information about when the water supply would be restored.
At the same time, electricity outages continue to be a major concern. Residents say power failures often last for long periods before municipality teams respond. The outages affect businesses, learners who need electricity to study and families who depend on electricity for food storage, lighting and other essential daily activities.
Ward councillor Mr Pelele addressed the concerns and said the water interruption was not caused by human error. According to the councillor the problem resulted from circumstances beyond human control and efforts were being made to restore the service as quickly as possible. However many residents believe that communication during the outages has not been sufficient and that they deserve regular updates from the municipality.
Community members are calling for improved services delivery, quicker response times to reported faults and better communication whenever there are interruptions to essential services. They argue that access to clean water and reliable electricity are basic rights and that prolonged outages place unnecessary hardship on families, schools, Healthcare services and local businesses.
Residents also want the municipality to invest in maintaining and upgrading ageing infrastructure to reduce the number of recurring service failures. They believe that better planning and fasters. Emergency response would help restore public confidence in local government.
As ward 11 continues to experience those challenges, residents hope that municipality leaders will take urgent action to improve service delivery and ensure that communications are not left without water or electricity for extended periods. They say reliable basic services are essential for protecting the health, dignity and well-being of everyone living in the community
