World Food Day Celebration at Tshehlwaneng Sports ground (Ratanang)
People of Ward 12 & 13 of Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality were celebrating World Food Day at Tshehlwaneng Sports ground. Since October is International Food Security month, the celebration was done before the actual day which is 16 October. The event was attended by Magoshi from tribal offices, representatives from Sekhukhune District Municipality, Makhuduthamaga, Ephraim Mogale, Fetakgomo- Tubatse Local Municipalities, councillors, officials and many more.
This is done to launch the 2018 planting season, purpose being to teach people about the importance of foods by the department of Agriculture and Rural Development. The Department handed flyers and about Primary Animal Health Care that focuses on: general care, disease prevention, parasite control, husbandry, housing and feeding of animals. There were also seedlings and different types of food on display, tractors and local people selling their agricultural products and traditional hand made products.
Agri-SETA Career guide book was also given to people about the skills development in the agriculture sector. It contains list of TVET’s and colleges of Agriculture, Training Authorities (SETA’s), educational organisations contact details and careers in the sector.
Mr Mabe Lesiba from the department of Justice and constitutional organisation was also there for justice exhibition. He handed flyers and a Directory of Justice Services book that outlines some of the services of the department that focuses specifically on issues that affect vulnerable people, women and children.
There were 200 people who registered to receive food parcels and because of transport issues only 20 people got them and the other 180 will be delivered to their homes.
There was performances by Ngwato a Marumo and others. I was also given a chance to play music by myself.
We hope that next year the celebration will be well planned as people from the villages were told on the 04 October about the event. There were cars at the sports ground same day and people were starting to ask what was happening until the announcement at 20H00, only hours before the event. We hope that next year event will be announced on time so that more people can attend and prepare themselves for the event, maybe we will see more local talent.
