During the lockdown many people have lost their jobs they have been retrenched. Especially at the mines (VMR Number shaft 9 and 10). Many workers have lost their jobs and because of this retrenchment employees are deeply hurt and angry so it led them into protesting.

The protest started one week back and somethings that belonged to the mine were damaged by protesters. Many people were arrested and some were injured, and what deeply hurts is that they haven’t received their monthly salaries, their children are dying of hunger.

So as the community of Kanana we are so frustrated because mines are going to be locked, people are going to be unemployed, so this is going to raise the rate of unemployment and hunger, this might lead to high rate of crime.
