In September 2018 a section of Monametse and Makgotho received notification that their houses
would be rebuilt after a previous shady work done in 2022 by a mine contractor on new houses given
to families that were evacuated from the precincts of the mine. The two areas are under the traditional
leadership of 3 kings (Magoshi), there was another notification in 2023 to build 12 houses that were
not rebuilt.
During the project correct building procedures were not followed, the mine created friendships with
some community members to unsettle the strict community leaders and create relationships with
traditional leaders in order to undermine community leaders.
Malengine Corruption Watch has asked for transparency in what they term “Information exchange”
which will assist in bringing back dignity to the organization.
The community leaders seek to be empowered on ways to fight for community rights.
