Mecklenburg Hospital situated next to R37 road and near Police station assists people from villages around Fetakgomo-Tubatse, namely Moroke, Moshira, Magobading, Sehunyane, Thokwane.Sefara and Seokodibeng. On the 2nd May 2023 i visited the hospital, it looks like they do not understand if there is an emergency, they only that an emergency is when a patient is brought to the hospital by an ambulance. Some people came to the hospital and you can see that they are not supposed to join the queue but nurses ignore them, the sick patients have no choice but to seat and wait like other people.

I arrived at the hospital at 9pm because the a child was burned by hot water, I was told there were no doctors, I was given medication and told to come back the following day. I was at the hospital at 9am and found less than 50 people waiting.

There people on wheelchairs and the elderly waiting for assistance but to my surprise they were not given first preference so that they can be assisted and go home early and rest, they were seating with young men and women in the queue.

I have been sitting from 9am until 3pm and i could see the queue was not moving and the child was is pain. I had to stand up and check in the wards to see if i can see the nurses to assist, i was disappointed to find them sitting in a  group talking and using their phones. It looks like they were enjoying whatever whatever they talking about while patients were sitting and waiting for assistance. Our nurses give us poor service and use loadshedding as an excuse while they did their own things during working hours, i even asked myself  that do they work nurses for love of saving people or only to get a salary at the end of the month.

I asked to speak to one of the nurses and explained who i am and the reason why i an there, she asked me the the whereabout of the child and asked me why I sat for that long, that is when i realised the inequality in our health facilities if you haveconnections, she then took the child to the ward but the child refused to enter, hewas crying and saying that they that they washed him with something that is used to wash cooking pots. Our nurses do as they please and their attitude and treatment to the people is not good. It needs to stop immediately.

Solution:

Health inspectors should inspect the services rendered  at hospitals. People need to lay complaints so that steps can be taken against the health workers who do not want do their job. People must not sit in the queue for long hours without being attended to. Patients must be divided into groups, example elderly, people with disabilities  and the frail. Our hospitals should not be affected by loadshedding because people might die. Health workers should stop having personal meetings or spending time on their phone while at work.
