WOMEN IN THE STRUGGLE
Zinhle Malevu, she became an activist around 2019 after the rural women’s assembly that was organized by Sisonke to talk about challenges facing majority our rural women, youth and old people.
WWittenI came to environmental justice and land redistribution, and in that gathering, I was elected to coordinate women on land advocacy and mining. She managed to start the One Home One Garden project and she engaged with mining companies and DMRE in the form of leading women’s protests to say mining should consider women’s rights.
The continue saying as a coordinator of women in Sisonke I have been tasked with a duty to assist rural women to make sure that they know their rights, that will make them to participate in public participation meetings. Another task is to organize rural women’s have enough water to work the land so to produce their own food since Covid 19 have introduce poverty in many rural areas. “I monitor mining companies don’t take much water because of their water use license”
Many rural women they don’t get that chance because of their traditions or culture that make women remain silent. But those campaigns will assist them to speak out and stand themselves.
