Mine dust Harmful environment

Moshabi Selowa

In Monametse Village early this year towards the end of September,
Bokoni platinum mine opened another operation an open cast.

The operation allows mine to use big machineries like:
– Big truck
– excavator
– Water trucks
The community faces the challenge of environmental impact which most
known as Dust.

Dust is the most silent killer to everyone living in such an area, which
brings serious affection to our society. This may affect our community
through the following diseases:
– shortbreath
– Skin aches
– Lungs disease
All those still disadvantages in terms of health occupation particularly in
job opportunities.
The mine operation affects all Monametse residents in terms of Safety.
Though mine use contractors like Staffanity Stocks (SS) we don’t have an
agreement on safety.
Bokoni Platinum Mine and its contractors fail the community in terms of
Safety:
– Road signs
– Dust control
– Crossing the road
All those take Monametse village residents back to memories of the loss
of two children in one family, Mine is the cause of such evils.
Today big machines run around the community and safety improved, the
worst part of the operation is only part of their working areas are
maintained daily perfectly.
The water trucks run on top of our mountain, but the bottom part of the
village blows dust and children cross the road while trucks deliver
chrome from our mountain.
The community tried their best to call mine on board but mine was
denied, and the second option was to block the road and then come
police, and soldiers back up.

Remember my premise becomes the camp of South African Defense
Force.
So in my opinion l feel like what’s left is only cases to rescue our affected
Communities.
