WONDERKOP IN CRISIS: OPEN PITS LEFT UNATTENDED

A devastating crisis is unfolding in Wonderkop, Northwest province, where abandoned open pits left by Madibeng municipal contractors have become a death trap for humans and animals. Despite numerous reports, the municipality has failed to take action, leaving residents feeling helpless and enraged.

The open pits, some as deep as 10 meters, have claimed the lives of livestock and pose a significant threat to human life. Children and animals are at risk of falling into pits, stagnant water has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes, and residents are at risk of waterborne diseases.

Residents are angry about the Madibeng Municipality’s lack of response to their requests for help. “We’ve reported this issue multiple times, but nothing has been done.” It’s like our lives don’t matter.

The community is demanding that the municipality take immediate action to fill in or properly secure the open pits, provide compensation to affected families, and implement measures to prevent similar crises in the future.

The people of Wonderkop will not be silenced. It’s time for the government to listen and act. We urge the Madibeng Municipality to take responsibility for this crisis and ensure the safety and well-being of Wonderkop residents.
