Water scarcity and livestock deaths
#mineeffects

Monametse village is under the leadership of Kgoshi Selepe it hosts and affected by UM2, Bikini mine ( Braakfontein mine).Bokoni mine has affected the community negatively, it affected the water flow in the river and dam’s levels are low and drying and these affects the well-being of livestock in the community and the nearby villages.

The mines have affected the community severely in terms of
*Lack of water in the rivers
*Continuous drop in water flow in the river and drop in dam levels.
*Livestock and people struggling to find water
*Deteriorating livestock health
*Growing road distractions
*The largest river called Monametsane has seen a huge drop in water flow, it is affected by Bokoni mine and has led to some of livestock farmers moved near mountains and rivers for survival. The mine has created its own dams to save water for their operations, this attracts animals and the water is not suitable for drinking and many animals get sick and die after drinking from them. The animals see this dams as a source of water and stay around the dams.

Community consulted the mine to resolve the matter and the mine promised to build community dams but to this day no action has been taken as the community is still waiting.
The mine has the ability and capability to build the dam for the community but opt not to assist.
